Soe Tas

Soe Tas

Like a painter, SOE TAS skilfully juggles with colours and offers us her carpets which are true paintings.
SOE TAS lives and works in Germany, in Bade-Wurtemberg region.

After being a brilliant student in Applied Arts and Art History in Stuttgart and Munich, SOE TAS experiments and develops, in the early 90’s, luminous flower shapes which underline her passion for flowers and which she calls “CARPAINTS”.

“Carpaints”: this word comes from the contraction of the two words “carpet” and “painting”. It is just as original as SOE TAS know-how: wool painting joined with a unique weaving technique.

Just like a painter selecting the colours on his palette, SOE TAS skilfully chooses among a hundred wool bobbins. She begins with spontaneously drawing floral patterns on a linen base, then, she carefully applies touches of coloured wool. She creates her own colour palette.

The use of soft pastel shades together with fluorescent colours shows the influence of Pop Art impulse on SOE TAS.

This artist finds her inspiration in the architectural decorations in Europe, Asia, Oceania and medieval Islam.
She likes to combine real and imaginary worlds.
Her ambition is “to free the colours from their initial context in order to create, in a new environment, an energy which in turn will be able to stimulate one’s creative pulsions”.
Creeping flowers in a sparkling jungle mesmerize the spectator who imagines he is standing in a far away exotic garden.
The magnificent decorations are clearly inviting one to travel. The liana, which shoot forth from nowhere, carry one to a vegetal world where all whims are allowed. SOE TAS world really is an atypical universe, where un-thought of colours live together with traditional decorations.

Organic shapes, coming from the plant world, are associated with gracefully-shaped figures. Bright colours evoke freedom and soften the sharpness of some patterns.

Several honours stand out as landmarks in SOE TAS career.
